Creatively Connecting to God’s Word – Play Proverbs
While many students look forward to lazing around during the summer, my mother determined that I needed to learn Proverbs during the summer, particularly Proverbs 6:6–11 to prevent laziness! I learned it in the King’s English:
Go to the ant, thou sluggard;Prov. 6:6–8 KJV
Consider her ways, and be wise:
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
Provideth her meat in the summer,
And gathereth her food in the harvest.
The New Living Translation makes it a little more understandable for today’s kids:
Take a lesson from the ants, you lazybones.Prov. 6:6–11 NLT
Learn from their ways and become wise!
Though they have no prince
or governor or ruler to make them work,
they labor hard all summer,
gathering food for the winter.
But you, lazybones, how long will you sleep?
When will you wake up?
A little extra sleep, a little more slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest—
then poverty will pounce on you like a bandit;
scarcity will attack you like an armed robber.
I can’t truthfully tell you that I enjoyed learning about the sluggard and the ant during that summer, but I can tell you that I have never forgotten that passage since! And I have certainly had my mother’s voice ringing in my ears any time I thought about being a lazybones!
Throughout this summer DDCommunity will be offering TEN weeks of fun classes for kids ages 10 to 100 with both afternoon and evening options each week. All classes are designed to teach creative ways to connect to God and His Word. Each session can stand alone but tips learned in each lesson can also be applied to future lessons and life-long creativity. It’s a GREAT way to grow creatively and spiritually this summer!
Our first CC2G (Creatively Connecting to God’s Word) class will be creating a Play Proverbs matching game. Join us on Wednesday, 6.1.16 @ 2:00 or Thursday, 6.2.16 @ 6:00 as we create this fun way to learn Proverbs that you, your family, and friends can enjoy all summer and throughout the year.
This creative play will introduce you to Project Life Core Kits and how they can be used to enhance your Bible memorization as well as documenting your spiritual life for future generations. Becky Higgins created Project Life to encourage people to “cultivate a good life and share it.” If you don’t know anything about Project Life you may want to watch the introductory video.
Creating a fun way to learn Proverbs can certainly help you “cultivate a good life and share it.” The wisdom of Proverbs can lead to spiritual maturity and provides a godly pattern for living. Through your Play Proverbs matching game you will take the first step in spiritual maturity – connecting to God’s Word. Then during your personal and/or family devotional time you will have an adventurous interactive Scripture memorization activity to enjoy.
This Play Proverbs matching game class has a suggested donation of $20.00 per family to cover the cost of the Project Life Core Kit that will be supplied.
A limited number of spaces are available, so please register each family member who plans to attend through the link on the DDCCalendar page. We look forward to having you and/or your family join us for a fun summer of Creatively Connecting to God’s Word!
