Searching for Lost Identity

DDCommunity: Searching for Lost Identity

Identity Lost

Man was created as a harmonious being. He connected in unity with all exactly as God designed. But when Adam and Eve decided God’s design was not adequate, humanity was propelled into a continuous search for completion. We are searching for what was lost—our identity.

All things were created by him and for him.

Col. 1:16 NIV

To all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.

John 1:12 NLT

Christ offers the ultimate identity!

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

1 John 5:1–5 NLT

Dear Lord, I don’t want to be deceived. Please help me clearly see that when people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as You are righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. I know that You came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into Your family do not make a practice of sinning, because Your life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are Your children. I am glad to be able to tell who are Your children but heart broken to see who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to You. Please point out where I am deceived about myself or anyone else. . . .
