Finding Christ Relevant to Every Area of Life

God Is the Sovereign. I Am under His Authority.

DDCommunity: God is the Sovereign authority.

God is the Sovereign authority.

God is the Sovereign. His domain, power, and authority are unparalleled and unrivaled. There is no restraint or inhibition placed on Him that prevents the exercise of His will. God is without limits and needs no permission to act. Guided only by His attributes, He rules over all. God knows the beginning and the end of time and sees into eternity as if today.

Remember what happened long ago,
for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and no one is like me.
I declare the end from the beginning,
and from long ago what is not yet done,
saying: my plan will take place,
and I will do all my will.

Isaiah 46:9–10 CSB

Our Sovereign is the ruler, authority, and judge. He establishes the dictates of the world. God acts according to His wisdom. And He seeks the best interest of all.

But the Lord sits enthroned forever;
he has established his throne for judgment.
And he judges the world with righteousness;
he executes judgment on the nations with fairness.

Psalm 9:7–8 CSB

The Sovereign is sovereign.

The Sovereign is sovereign, meaning God accomplishes His plans regardless of any willing cooperation. He possesses ultimate authority over all the kings of the earth, the devils that roam the earth, and the will of humans upon the earth. But God does not need to control these interests to perform His plan. Therefore, God can allow all free will, and still, His plans will come to fruition.

Because God is the Sovereign, all are under His authority. Ultimately, we will all be defined by who we are in our relationship to Christ.

For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God.”

Romans 14:11 CSB

God is true. I am accountable.

God sets the standard of truth.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

John 14:6 NIV

Jesus provided the way to enter a relationship with the Father. And everyone is accountable for their decision to accept or reject His gift of salvation.

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true by being in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

1 John 5:20 NIV

We struggle to understand how we fit into this world. Most often, the perspective of others organizes our self-concept. Unwittingly these perspectives lead us to view ourselves in a manner that deviates from what is real. Such experiences encourage us to think that we are better or worse than we are. These influences confuse us because they do not accurately represent the truth.

Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him, “You will be proved right in what you say, and you will win your case in court.”

Romans 3:4 NLT

We strive to convert mere opinion, criticism, or sentiment into a defining picture of who we are, even though the portrait may be false. Jesus is the truth. Therefore, my dealings with Him produce a complete understanding of my identity.

Lord God, you are God; your words are true.

2 Samuel 7:28 CSB

To develop an identity around God’s view of me, I must embrace the biblical truth of God’s words about Himself. How I see God then determines how I view myself.

God is true. God’s Word is truth.

God reveals Himself in His Word. As I learn the truth of God, I come to understand Jesus.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

John 1:14 NASB

Everyone stands accountable to the truth of God – to believe or reject the truth.

When I enter into an intimate relationship with the true God through His Son, Jesus Christ, I am abundantly blessed by all His promises.

God is not a man, that he might lie, or a son of man, that he might change his mind. Does he speak and not act, or promise and not fulfill?

Numbers 23:19 CSB

Because God is the Sovereign, I am under His authority. And as my sovereign authority, I can trust that God is true and His Word is truth. He establishes my identity and it is true. I am loved.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 NKJV

The truth is, God wants a relationship with you!
